Antifungal agents. Which and when to use

Abstract

Not all patients from whom a fungal organism has been isolated require treatment. On the other hand, some patients require urgent antifungal therapy. Choice of treatment and duration of therapy are determined by the type of fungal organism, the severity of disease, and the patient's immunologic status. Additional information is needed to compare the outcomes of newer therapeutic regimens with those of existing ones and to clarify major issues in the management of mycotic disease in immunocompromised patients.
