Abstract

The study of lower-extremity joint pathomechanics and wear testing of joint replacement materials require specialized equipment capable of reproducing physiological load and movement conditions. However, the complex range of motion of the hip and knee joints has previously limited satisfactory design of such a device. The design of a robust dynamic joint simulator, capable of providing real-time control of the joint angular displacement and joint compressive load, is described.
