Abstract

The findings support the premise that cerebral metabolic patterns, as determined by PET scan, can be distinctive among depressed and demented persons. However, since most of these studies were performed on subjects with advanced and clearly defined evidence of disease, further investigation is required to learn the potential usefulness of this approach in the early differential diagnosis of dementia.
