Abstract

(DN) is one of the most frequent complications of diabetes and it occurs in about 65% of persons that suffer with this disease. This could manifest in a chronic and progressive form and it could be symmetric or asymmetric. The distal symmetrical polyneuropathy appears to have a metabolic cause whereas the focal one is caused by a vascular insufficiency which sometimes could be from inflammation. Pain is one of the most frequent symptoms of diabetic polyneuropathy, this is treated with multiple drugs. In this article we discuss the classification of diabetic neuropathy, its etiology, diagnosis and treatment.
