Abstract

Hernias through the foramen of Winslow are a rare form of internal hernias which can occur at any age. The most conspicuous symptom is pain; signs and symptoms secondary to intestinal obstruction appear later. The diagnosis can be made on the basis of the clinical history and plain abdominal films. Barium enema and upper gastrointestinal tract studies are helpful in confirming the diagnosis. Because of the infrequent occurrence of this hernia in childhood, the case of a 7-year-old girl with this condition is reported and discussed.
