The isolation and characterization of bovine corneal collagen

Abstract

The α1, α2, β11 and β12 collagen components were obtained from an acetic acid extract of adult bovine cornea by carboxymethylcellulose chromatography and Agarose 1.5 M gel filtration. Glucose and galactose were the only monosaccharides in all four collagen components. Amino acid analyses suggest that bovine corneal and skin collagens could be products of the same structural gene.
