Abstract

Family physicians can play an integral role in the management of patients who require surgery. By discussing the available options afforded by minimally invasive procedures for a variety of conditions patients will be better prepared for the procedure. When appropriate, minimally invasive procedures may be desirable alternatives to open surgery by offering the benefits of shorter hospital stays, faster recovery times, less pain, and less scarring.
